GV Steels Threaded Tube

Props & Trench Struts

Threaded Tube

Threaded Tube is the outer sleeve of an adjustable steel prop: a 60.3 mm O.D. steel tube with a rolled 4 TPI external thread running its length and a slot milled along the side for the locking pin. The threaded surface engages the prop nut for height adjustment. GV supplies threaded tubes in five size series (0–4), both as replacement parts for maintaining prop fleets and as components for new assemblies. Specify the size and quantity needed.

Tube geometry

60.3 mm O.D., 3.6 mm wall with rolled thread

The tube is cold-rolled steel with a standard 60.3 mm outside diameter and 3.6 mm wall thickness. The 4 TPI thread is rolled on the external surface without cutting, preserving the material strength.

Thread and slot

4 TPI rolled thread with a G pin slot

The 4 TPI thread engages the prop nut for fine height adjustment. A longitudinal slot allows the G pin to pass through without obstruction.

Fleet and new-build supply

Replacement tubes, sizes #0–#4

Damaged or worn threaded tubes are replaced in prop fleets to restore the adjustment mechanism. New threaded tubes are also supplied for assembling replacement props from component parts.

Common applications

Where it is used.

Application

Formwork support in slab and beam construction

The threaded tube is the fixed housing of the prop. It carries the threaded nut and provides the support range from closed length to fully extended as the formwork is built up and adjusted.

Application

Falsework towers and back-propping

Multiple props work together in towers beneath slabs and beams. Each threaded tube's adjustment range determines the spacing increment and the height range of that tier in the falsework system.

Application

Fleet replacement and refurbishment

Replace threaded tubes when the thread becomes stripped or the slot is damaged. Supply new tubes to rebuild prop assemblies when the original components cannot be refurbished.

Questions answered

Common questions.

What is a threaded tube and what does it do?
The threaded tube is the prop's outer sleeve, 60.3 mm outside diameter with 3.6 mm wall thickness. It carries a 4 TPI rolled thread for the prop nut and a slot for the G pin. It's the rotating member that adjusts the prop height.
What else is threaded tube called?
In the US it's called a prop sleeve when listed among prop parts. It's known for carrying the thread that the prop nut runs on. GV supplies it for props in sizes #0 to #4.
