Earth Anchor / Auger

Earth Anchor / Auger is a screw anchor for pole guys: a steel helix on a rod with an eye at the top, turned into the soil at the lead of the guy. The guy wire is made off to the eye and holds angle and dead-end poles upright. Specify rod diameter, helix diameter, length, finish and the quantity you need.

How it works

Screw it in at the lead, guy to the eye

The anchor is set out at the lead distance from the pole on the side away from the pull of the line. It is screwed into the soil with a bar through the eye or with a powered installer, in line with the guy, until only the eye stands above ground. The guy strand is then made off to the eye and tensioned.

US utility suppliers also call it a screw anchor, guy anchor, or helix anchor.

How is the helix size of a screw anchor chosen?

Softer soils need a larger helix to hold the guy; firm soils can take a smaller one. You set the helix diameter, rod diameter and length from the soil and the guy design. GV supplies 4 to 10 in (100 to 250 mm) helixes on 1/2 to 1 in (12 to 25 mm) rods, with a forged or welded single or double eye, painted, powder coated or hot dip galvanized.
